Roseanne - Evergreen Authors

Roseanne says:

Phew, this is a good question. As someone who's published four books, I've got a LIST of things I might have done differently, with hindsight being 20/20 and all.

My biggest mistake with my first two books is something I see a lot of authors do as well: I was way too focused on getting myself into bookstores.

Don't get me wrong: bookstores are great! But people are buying books in ALL KINDS of different ways nowadays, and while bookstores are incredible resources for our communities, having a presence there or doing a signing there isn't always the best way to move a lot of inventory.

If you do pursue a presence in bookstores, remember:

1. You'll need to promote your event/signing

2. You'll need to account for your time there (is it worth it?)

3. You'll need to remember that the bookstore is interested in getting people in the door, not necessarily selling a ton of copies of your particular book.

Again, we LOVE bookstores! But they are just a piece of the marketing puzzle when it comes to selling books.
